Today we have a short podcast with Eric from Bouchard Industries. Eric shifted from mobile game development and a stint at Warner Brothers to hardware innovation. He is now building a basic phone with one clear mission: give you the features you need—like secure messaging and ride sharing—without the endless distractions that come with smartphones. The device will run on open-source Linux software (not Android!) and feature an e-paper display making mindless scrolling a thing of the past.
While there are already plenty of dumbphones out there, Eric is upping the ante by prioritizing privacy, open standards, and community feedback. The challenge? Making it happen. Balancing utility with minimalism is hard and he definitely needs a lot of feedback from you to offer enough connectivity to keep you practical but not perpetually distracted.
